Full description

The New Sunshine Substation project is a vital infrastructure initiative intended to enhance the electrical distribution network serving the City of Gallup and the surrounding region. As population growth, economic development, and increased energy usage continue to place greater demands on the existing system, the current substation facility has become inadequate to reliably support present and future electrical loads. To address these challenges, the City of Gallup Electric Department is undertaking the development of a new, modern substation and associated transmission line infrastructure. The project is designed to improve power delivery efficiency, increase system reliability and resilience, and reduce the risk of service interruptions. Upon completion, the New Sunshine Substation will play a key role in ensuring consistent, dependable electrical service for residential, commercial, and industrial customers while supporting long-term growth and infrastructure sustainability within the region.
