The City of Syracuse Parks and Recreation Department is seeking proposals to lead the public input process, volunteer recruitment, planting and maintenance of 1,700+ trees as part of the reforestation and restoration of 38 acres of natural areas across 8 city-owned parcels The awarded proposers will be working closely with the Parks Department and other contractors to implement these projects.

The City of Syracuse Parks and Recreation Department was awarded funding from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservations’ Community Reforestation Grant (CoRe) to conduct forest stand restoration and reforestation across 8 sites, totaling 38.4 acres. The goal of this funding is to transform these sites through the removal and control of invasive plants followed by the planting of 3,840 trees at these sites, involving the community from project inception to follow-up maintenance. Approximately 30 % of trees will be planted and maintained by volunteers through the coordination and training led by the proposer. The remaining trees will be planted and maintained by Onondaga Earth Corps.Project areas include:Six locations along Onondaga Creek including:109 Ford Ave 2.5 acres2300 Onondaga Creek Blvd 1.8 acres235 Rill Ave 2.5 acres611 Ballantyne Rd 2.1 acres - along levee301 E Florence Ave 3.3 acres - along levee301 W Florence Ave 4.8 acres - along leveeNatural areas within two large community parksLincoln Park 11.4 acres VIII.
